Yelp Dining Review
7/20/2009
WOW!
Let me start by saying wow. My husband and I attended the Yelp event here, and in the middle got bored (sorry), stepped back in and grabbed a table. Before I explain the decadence that followed, I should share that I wrote about this dinner in my personal diary at home, and before we'd made it to the car in the parking lot, we'd already planned our next trip back.
Being the 100% dork that I am, I ask a lot of questions. And being I'm so A.D.D., I pretend to be listening to the answer and when something catches my attention, I make you repeat yourself. It's pretty difficult dealing with me, in all honesty. That's why our waitress, Dawn, was such a doll. Not only did she answer my stupid questions, she was able to make (top notch) personal recommendations, and make me feel like it was a friend giving me food advice - not a waitress who wants to sell me food.
We started with the Butter Lettuce Cup salad, which we shared. Ohmigoodness, was it delicious. I never thought some plain ol' lettuce with stuff on it could taste so good... but it did. Oh my, it did! And then our sushi came. It was like a circus (minus the scary clowns) in my mouth! It was like multi-colored lights and confetti were swirling and I think I heard angels singing. I might be mistaken on that one... but I could have sworn.
My husband had to have an order of tuna nigiri -- and it was the freshest, most tender, most flavorful tuna I've ever set in my mouth. And I grew up in Japan, folks! I KNOW good fish! We had the California roll, because it's a pretty good standard by which to measure. And even though it had the same ingredients as every other standard California roll -- it was somehow, simply, better.
On the suggestion of Dawn the Waitress, we had an Oh My God roll... and my only sentiment is plainly: oh my god. I don't remember exactly what was in it - only that I could swear that they mixed in crack. Not really. But you get what I mean. It was just... make-your-mouth-water-by-thinking-about-it good. WOW!
We also got the Spicy Tuna Crunch and the Super Crunch. They were also magically delicious. Crunchy and wonderful. What more could you ask for?! Ah... I'll tell you what more you could ask for. The last roll we ordered was the Spicy Tuna Maki.
Now -- I've eaten a lot of spicy things. I have an uncle without the ability to taste (he can FEEL the effects of spicy, otherwise nothing), and we've had spicy eating contests. But this Spicy Tuna Maki is for only the very brave. Or very crazy. Or perhaps you need a little of both, I'm not sure. Not only was the tuna mixed with the red spicy sauce that I can't recall the name of -- but it was also dolloped on top of each slice of the roll! Every time we took a bite it was like being punched in the face. IT WAS GREAT!!!!!!
Neither my husband nor I are drinkers, so all of the alcohol, specialty mix drinks, huge wine list and assortment of other alcoholic drinks are wasted on us. However, everyone around us seemed to be enjoying them in large quantities.
All in all -- this is by far the best sushi place I've ever been to. It's a trek to get there, from the Tucker/Decatur area. But oh-so worth it. Like I said, before we'd made it back to the car, my husband had already planned our next visit back. ((Also worth noting -- THIS IS MY 100th REVIEW!!! Yay for me!))
